Camp Minsi offers canoe rentals for Scouts BSA units participating in weekend camping or approved unit outings. Canoes may be used on-site at Camp Minsi or transported by the unit for off-site float trips. Rentals are available for full weekend use, from Friday noon through Sunday evening.

Availability & Eligibility

Canoe rentals are available for full weekend use, beginning Friday at noon and concluding Sunday evening.

Rentals are available to registered Scouts BSA units participating in weekend camping or approved unit outings. Canoes may be used on-site at Camp Minsi or transported by the unit for approved off-site activities, in accordance with Scouting America policies.

All canoe use must be conducted under appropriate adult supervision and follow the Scouting America Guide to Safe Scouting and all applicable safety requirements.

What’s Included

All canoe rental packages include:

Units are responsible for securing and transporting the trailer.

  • Skill instruction, recreation, or patrol activities during weekend outings

Safety & Policies

  • Units must follow Scouting America's Guide to Safe Scouting
  • Proper life jacket use is required
  • Units are responsible for safe operation, supervision, and transport
  • All equipment must be returned clean and in good condition

Pickup, Return & Logistics

  • Canoes are available for pickup beginning Friday at noon
  • All equipment must be returned by Sunday evening
  • Pickup and return instructions will be provided upon reservation confirmation

Canoe Rental FAQs

Yes. Canoes may be used on-site at Camp Minsi or transported by the unit for approved off-site activities. Units are responsible for transportation, supervision, and ensuring all activities comply with the Guide to Safe Scouting and Safety Afloat requirements.

Yes. At least one adult leader supervising activities afloat must have completed Scouting America Safety Afloat training within the previous two years, as required by the Guide to Safe Scouting.

All canoe activities must follow Scouting America Safety Afloat guidelines, including qualified adult supervision, required use of properly fitted life jackets, appropriate participant skill levels, and compliance with all applicable safety standards.

Supervising leaders are responsible for ensuring appropriate supervision ratios and participant skills based on the activity and water conditions, in accordance with the Guide to Safe Scouting.

Yes. Properly fitted, U.S. Coast Guard–approved life jackets must be worn by all participants while boating, in accordance with the Guide to Safe Scouting. Life jackets are included with all canoe rental packages.

Units should plan activities with weather conditions in mind and follow Safety Afloat guidance regarding changing conditions. Leaders should check the forecast before departure and have a weather contingency plan in place, including alternative activities if conditions make boating unsafe. Canoe rentals are for the full weekend regardless of weather. Units with concerns should contact the council office prior to their rental weekend.
